The passage of time in Wellington and elsewhere
The race arrives on Friday with part of the route through St. Gilles vieux marché.
And the local route:
It is currently warm and dry. The grass is growing more slowly; which is good.
We are working on the wild flower development with some small success. More seeding done after grass removal with the expectation that we will achieve some flowering success.
There are some flowers out that the insects like.
The apple and pear trees have blossom, so more than others but a success all the same.
Another tree is being collected tomorrow to add to the collection and complete thecircle
The shipping container with the items we sent back from NZ arrived in Rotterdam about two weeks ago and turned up at the house yesterday in a big lorry. Not so much stuff, bit still, along with beds and memory boxes, the kitchen table which has been back and forth over the last 20 plus years in back in place.
Shaz’s dream has been constructed. A high quality item made in Finistère which is more robust than the ones in the garden centre type places. After reading the insructions and watch the videos lots of times, she put it up with great success.
As previously noted the family home has been sold. The settlement is due soon.
The last day is done for us, spent cleaning by someone and packing the car and stuff by someone else.
So just about 20 years to the day.
The view still looks good.
Well, time to move on.
It was sold by auction- though there was only one bidder. So in reality negotiation done by the auctioneer.
The current market is certainly cooler than it has been. The local effects of the public sector job cuts seem apparent.
To the next phase.
Looking at spending more money- really need to put gutters up on th back the house to deal with water underneath I think. But….££
Back to the garden.
As the land gets so wet in the autumn and winter such that, the pond area overflows with water and the area adjacent becomes the supplementary pond, we decided to put in plants that should tolerate the water well and fight the overwhelming grass. So to a wet garden zone.
The first stage has been to clear the area of grass: cutting first and digging out the roots next. And so the area looks like:
So the earth is prepared and we await the new plants- about 300euro worth!
Let’s hope it works.
An update on how the pond is looking, from time to time.
It does need some help with the removal of algae and pond weed by using the net and stepping in.
