Health and social inequalities-the big man speaks
The New Zealand Medical Association seems to have had a “road to Damascus” experience (re St. Paul-see Gospel according to Luke for those not in the know!). Iy has discovered health inequalities and invited Michael Marmot , international researcher of renown,to come to NZ for a few days.
An invigorating afternoon. I obviously knew most of the facts presented but the success she reports in other parts of the world increases one’s optimism and encourages a more positive outlook. “A fairer society, healthier lives” is what it is all about.
The Minister of Health opened proceedings, bit being part of the conservative and non-interventionist tendency his answer was all about increasing the economic pie before anything could be afforded-same old-same old.

Queen’s birthday weekend
I had a great weekend at the Thrashers. As well as allowing me to play for Little Staughton cricket club on Friday evening, they also managed to arrange a fly past for me on the Saturday.
A great time, thanks very much.
The vanquished
The lads are keen golfers and tend to the obsessional side. I however, turned up having not swung in anger for 4 years. As it passed, I had one of those days when you pick up the clubs with no expectations, the shoulders are relaxed, and so the ball sails down the middle.
Anyway, the important thing, other than the taking part, was I won. This left Kiernan to wonder what went wrong, and go out the next day to practice for hours.
