“I thought they would end up in Kansas”

A bit late in the day but update of the New year period. We went camping up the”cup of tea coast”, Quirkes and Rudgleys in convoy. Tents were erected, and BBQ had, and wine and beer drunk, not withstanding the beers nicked out of the campsite fridge by the local trash. The Rs were in the reserve tent-which is no more. We pitched the tents in what turned out to be a wind tunnel on a very windy night, so much so that the Rudgley abode for the night was turned into a pancake when the three sets of poles snapped. There was lots of noise and a stirring speech from Richard in Churchillian fashion, telling his family it was all fine as long as they did as he said and did not open the tent door and create a vortex. Lisa laughed and cried and got up early to amuse Sara, and children turned over and ignored dad. It was decided to move on earlier than planned and the said “quality” tent from the Warehouse went in the bin.
Back to Wellington for New Year’s Eve on the deck.

Boxing Day
So, here we all are on the day. Trip to the beach again, this time in beautiful sunshine to play cricket, play in the surf and run around. Adults sat on bums and ate and drank. In the evening, it was time to move around the coast and snorkel. The clever ones found the paua to cook on the beach, for all others to try the taste, and otherwise eat the chips from the local chipper.

To the Sounds
The Hacks on holiday in “Godzone” or “God’s own”.
Trip to the Marborough Sounds to see the beauty and in the end enjoy the cloud cover. All children completed the walk along the Charlotte Track, 15Km worth.
Half time whistle for the cricket season
So this morning was the last game of grade 10 for Joe until the resumption of hostilities in February, after possibly some intensive training.
Joe is an all rounder who is “solid”.
Just worked out his figures for proceedings so far.
Bowling; overs 14.3, runs 84 (includes 15 wides or No balls) Wickets 4, with an economy of 5.8
He has also been keeping wicket, no stumpings achieved but style marks reasonable.
Batting; 14 runs for 5 outs so average of 2.8, and strike rate of 17/100 balls. So needs some work on stroke play I would say.
However, his are not the worst figures-go team!
So rest now from Saturday mornings rushing around and being frazled in the sun. Time to work on Joe’s forward defensive and slow left arm spin.
