The passage of time in Wellington and elsewhere

So apparently the first time Brentford have beaten Manchester United since 1938.
It was a complete thrashing- 4-nil.

The Perc and I were in a new seats – in the same stand but a few rows higher up allowing us to see more of the action.
Man U were terrible and gave away 2-3 of the goals.
It was the return of Eriksen who looked out of place and position and did not have the influence that he had just a little while ago playing in a Brentford shirt.
The crowd were happy at the end singing along. We went to the pub for a few celebratory pints.
This weekend is round 2 of the premier league season. An early start because of the world cup being held in winter because of the oppressive heat.
So this weekend is the first home game against the well- known Manchester United, who were poor in their first match and the Bees pulled back to get a good draw.
Erikson is gone- to Man Utd, and maybe a fine replacement has been found?

Brentford have agreed a deal to sign the highly rated Denmark midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard from Sampdoria on a five-year deal for a fee of €15m (£12.7m).
The 22-year-old has completed his medical and will become the club’s sixth summer signing.
And it must be enough for safety. By far the better team against West Ham. A 2-0 result. A good performance- the best that I have seen in a long time. A return to proper football with accurate passing on the floor.
And the crowd were happy.
Late to update this but all the same.
Last Saturday the mighty Bees hammered the local rivals Chelsea. The same club that has had outstanding success in the last two decades and are currently Champions League holders and world club champions. Despite this pedigree Brentford won 4-1 away form home. Amazing result. The first win over Chelsea since 1939 it seems.
I had a late offer of a ticket but could not take it up as I had a conflicting appointment- pre-op assessment at Chelsea & Westminster. An opportunity missed.
This is the same Chelsea that are in difficulties due to sanctions imposed on Russian oligarchs close to the murderous, war mongering Putin regime.
So it seems the Danish superstar had a lot to do with the great performance and win. He scored in this match as well as scoring on his international return during the week. A marvellous story.

Christian Eriksen scored his first goal for Brentford as they closed in on Premier League safety by outclassing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Brentford produced a magnificent display to record their first win over Chelsea since 1939 as they came from behind to stun Thomas Tuchel’s side with three goals in 10 minutes in the second half before adding a fourth late on to humiliate the Champions League holders.
Ivan Toney delivered victory for Brentford against Burnley, who were resilient for 86 minutes – yet the new box office Bee, Christian Eriksen, was the creator. The Brentford head coach, Thomas Frank, stated that his Danish compatriot could become the club’s best ever signing. Fresh back-to-back Premier League victories will ensure likely survival for Brentford. If others hesitated on Eriksen, Frank trusted his intuition. Four Burnley opponents were left rigid by a clip of an Eriksen boot for Toney to head home. And the Bees can look forward to similar manoeuvres in their nine remaining games. For Sean Dyche’s side, aiming to avoid the drop, it was harsh. For Brentford , with Eriksen’s trademark calm amid edgy moments, improvements appear guaranteed. Julian Taylor
“[Christian] has found a place where he feels confident to take the next step in the fight to get back on to the field. I’m super-happy that he is safe and happy and looking forward to playing football, and that we can all see him play again” – the Denmark coach, Kasper Hjulmand, on Christian Eriksen finding the right club in Brentford. Christian Eriksen in action for Denmark against Finland at Euro 2020, before his cardiac arrest
Christian Eriksen has made an emotional return to football with Brentford after the trauma of the Euro 2020 finals last summer when, in his words, he “died for five minutes” on the pitch. The Denmark midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest during his team’s opening game of the tournament against Finland in Copenhagen on 12 June and received life-saving treatment from medics
Eriksen has been motivated by the dream of returning to the highest level and playing for Denmark at the World Cup finals in Qatar at the end of the year. He has taken another step towards it by signing for Brentford until the end of the season. If things go well, he could be offered a deal for the following season.
