Tongariro Crossing

We have lived here for twelve years and this activity has always been on the agenda.  Now it has happened.  A scorching day, with lots of energy needed and aching feet the result.

Sara came down the massive shale

A reminder of aging

Boxing day in the sun. After a Christmas day spent at home with lots of food and the company of the children, this morning involved a communal run along the waterfront. From the needle by St. Pats to Point Jerningham in the sunshine, though little wind, we ran. A beautiful way to spend a beautiful morning despite the physical discomfort.

There was an eye opener.Age is catching me. Finally all three children were able to out run me. The peak is well gone though one must keep going. I was pleased to do the the 7.5Km in particular, that the foot injury was quiet.

All again tomorrow.

Wellington hits The Guardian

48 hours in Wellington, New Zealand: where to go, what to do

It’s cool-as, cute, culinarily blessed and compact. Wherever you are in the Kiwi capital, chances are you’re a 10-minute stroll from the next place you want to be

Nostalgia

My memory was prodded by needing to think about an overseas trip for my French homework. It made me think of the school trip to Brienz with St. John’s when we were in class seven, around 10 or 11 years old.

A trip across Europe by coach(?) boat and train from west London. Looking back it was a great thing to be doing.

If found the youth hostel on the web. I remember the place well enough to recognise the images. Amazing really.

Brienz – Hostels – Swiss Youth Hostels.

The year before I had gone to Fiesch, also in Switzerland. Again I found what I think to be the sire though I do not remember it so clearly. Though I do remember the pool and the environs.

Post holiday in the sun

The fresh start.

I have decided to re-instigate the blog since being on holiday. I thought it would be a good thing to again keep some record of life’s activities. I addition I though it best to take control and actually pay real money rather than using a site that is ‘free”. As the saying goes; “if your not paying, then you are the product”. I had already changed from Blogger and the world of Google to WordPress.com. Not the whole way with a real domain name and site hosting.

When on holiday I tried to demonstrate that I am not ancient and could still live on the edge(?!) and so had a paragliding trip. Views over Lake Hawea after jumping off a hill. The time in the ir was about 15 minutes and great fun. No fear just the exhilaration of speed, noise and views.

Maybe more in the future.

Slow movements towards holiday

Not much happening as the countdown to holiday continues. Three more working days until the car is off for a trip to the camping grounds of the Bay of Plenty, with an engagement party on the way, with us camping in the host’s garden, along with a few others.
Roll on sunshine, sea, sand, surf and sailing. Kids excited by the prospect of life under”canvas”. Same for me with prospect of fishing, though I never have before. I am sure some nice Kiwi man on the beach will show us how to add practical knowledge to our theoretical knowldge on surfcasting for out tea. We are proud rod owners.
The kite will come out, or is it the three kites, so that we have enough bits to put one up in the air. Time to practice those loop manoeuvres.
No doubt I will also become “MG” the BBQ king!
Happy dreaming
