The final countdown

Today we, that is Shaz and I, fly out of Wellington on our way to the UK via Asia.So the next stage of our journey starts.

Everyone has their new journey. EQ is in Hamburg and ready to start here new Masters course, Joe has his OE planned from April and Isaac off to study in the Netherlands he hopes. All he needs to do is finish the portfolio and apply!

Exciting and nervous times all at once.

Newtown Medical Centre

Yesterday was my final day after five and a half years being there part-time. I said goodbye to some familiar patients; Joseph and Valeria and the staff. It has been a good place to work, supportive, fun and pleasant colleagues and a variety of patients who for the most part are very nice to engage with.

Back in action-resumé

Again a long time since being able to post. A number of factors, firstly due to a lack of time with being on holiday in Australia en famille in Melbourne and Apollo Bay in country Victoria. The Ashes were on and Joe and I thought another trip to the MCG would be worth it and good value. In the end not to bad.

The principal reason for the delay was the changing of the host for the blog. The change was made for good reason-cost. Hosting for 3 years for the cost of one previously. However the transfer did not so smoothly and I had to pay to have that done- so not so much of a saving in the end! All took time too.

Plus there is a lot going on with moving. Wow.

Midnight mass

So for the second year running we were at the Cathedral to welcome in Christmas day. A busier way to do so and more of an event after the previous local less moving experiences.

So today we were four as EQ is sitting in Germany enjoying her own special version of Christmas. The Cardinal was leading (NB next Pope- you read it here first) and there was lots of music. Not quite as full as last year and a bit too much complicated Latin singing. Consensus was that it was not so good this year. I still enjoyed the atmosphere and John D words were stimulating.

More fun ahead.

The Messiah

As ever better late than never. Last weekend we made our usual trip to see in the Messiah performed and here are my thoughts.

As Joseph would say we have our traditions, and going each year is one of ours. Has become relatively easy in recent years as the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra has made The Messiah part of its regular season. It is difficult to be precise aboutWhich yearsThe betterThis years performance change be a good one.

All four soloists were strong and were able to sustain their voices. The Orpheus choir I think was about 140 strong and seemed to be enough to give sufficient volume to the choral music. The orchestra play some sections that I have not heard before which were beautiful and worthwhile to hear.

As ever, it was a lovely activity to listen to and see.

Next year which performance will we watch? We will be in London so will it be an opportunity to revisit the Royal Albert Hall to see the masters in action?

Take That

I never thought that I would going to see Take That, but it goes to show how the unexpected happens.

Murray came up with the suggestion, Sara jumped at it and I tagged along.

Three of the original members are still playing, and I must say I found them to be very professional and entertaining. I did not know all the music but enough to enjoy.
There were plenty of old recognisable tunes amongst the new ones. Lots people enjoyed themselves, Sara and Murray included.

So maybe another example of getting out and trying new and alternative things.
